'I didn’t realize what I was doing - I was just being myself': J. Lo didn't mean be an icon for 'curvy' women

Jennifer Lopez is a lot of things: iconic performer, mom of two and #fitnessinspo, to name a few.

The 49-year-old has never lost sense of her alter ego, Jenny from the Block, despite her career kicking off more than 30 years ago.

“It’s what I still often wear to this day, the big hoops and, you know, gold jewelry,” she told InStyle magazine.

“I always like to mix the glam with a bit of the hood.”

As the cover star of InStyle‘s December issue, the 49-year-old reflected on her famous curves.

“In my family, curves were glorified and part of the culture. It was just like, ‘Jennifer has a big butt, and it’s good’,” she said.

With celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj now promoting a curvy physique, Lopez was a major frontrunner in helping women accept they didn’t need to be waif thin.

In fact, Kardashian has even admitted to wearing a bracelet that read “What would J. Lo do?”

But the singer said she didn’t set out to be a curvy icon.

“I didn’t realize what I was doing — I was just being myself,” she said.

Lopez not only spoke about her body to InStyle but also flaunted it in a green Valentino Haute Couture Cape. And, in usual J. Lo fashion, people can’t believe how good she looks.

“You don’t have to show or try too hard, mama. We all know you’ve got it goin’ on,” read one Instagram comment.

“J. Lo plays up that body like nobody’s business. We see you, J. Lo,” says another.

In fact, Lopez is so into sharing her curves on social media, she welcomed her 49th birthday with a photo celebrating with friends – six pack abs included.
