For many in Miami, Christmas Eve is for family, eating, drinking and gifts, and Christmas Day is for rest, gifts and church. But you may still need to buy something, toss the garbage, get from here to there.

Here’s what’s open and closed in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area on Christmas Day, along with some Christmas Eve closing times.

Supermarkets

The Sunny Isles Beach Milam’s Market, 17100 Collins Ave.

Publix: Christmas Eve, closing at 7 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Winn-Dixie: Christmas Eve, closing at 9 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Sedano’s: Christmas Eve, open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Day, open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Presidente: Open Christmas Day, but call your store for hours.

Milam’s Market: Christmas Eve hours 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Price Choice Supermarkets: Open Christmas Day, but call your favorite location for hours.

Aldi: Most stores close at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

The Fresh Market: Christmas Eve hours 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Whole Foods Market: Christmas Eve hours 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Downtown Miami location opening at 7:30 a.m.) Closed Christmas Day.

Trader Joe’s: Christmas Eve, closes at 5 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Family Dollar: Christmas Eve hours 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Walmart Neighborhood Markets: Christmas Eve hours 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Closed Christmas Day.

Sawyer’s Walk in Overtown has a Target, Burlington, Five Below and Aldi supermarket at 249 NW Sixth St.

Walmart: Christmas Eve hours, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Closed Christmas Day.

Target: Christmas Eve hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Costco: Christmas Eve hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

BJ’s Wholesale Club: Open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day.

Pharmacy chains

It can be tough to get prescriptions filled on Christmas Day.

Walgreens: Stores open Christmas Day. Different locations have different hours. Most pharmacies will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day.

CVS/Navarro: Stores are open Christmas Day, some with reduced hours. Most pharmacies are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day, but one that will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. is the CVS at Southwest Eighth Street and 57th Avenue.

Shopping malls

Pembroke Lakes Mall: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Sawgrass Mills: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Chrustmas Day.

Shops at Merrick Park: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Westland Mall: Christmas Eve hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.

Mass transit

Miami-Dade: Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover will run Christmas Day on a Sunday schedule. Metrolink will not be operating. STS customers can reserve or cancel a trip at 305-871-1111.

Broward: Broward County Transit buses will run Christmas Day on a Sunday schedule. Trip planning help for fixed and TOPS Paratransit routes will be available 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302).

Tri-Rail: The rail service will run on its weekend/holiday schedule.

Garbage

Miami-Dade: No garbage or recycling collection Christmas Day.

Miami: No garbage or recycling collection Christmas Day.

Broward: No garbage pickup Christmas Day.

Fort Lauderdale: No garbage, recycling or bulk collections Christmas Day.
