Dolly Parton reading scheme hits million mark
A reading scheme supported by singer Dolly Parton has delivered its millionth book.
The Imagination Library was set up in 2013 and gives a book a month to children under five.
The milestone was celebrated at a special event at the Live Well Isle of Axholme centre in Epworth.
North Lincolnshire Council said it would continue to fund the project.
Council leader Rob Waltham said: "The Imagination Library has become a crucial part of our efforts to support families and children in North Lincolnshire and this milestone reflects the dedication of everyone involved.
"We are committed to ensuring that every child in our area has the opportunity to thrive, and reading is a key part of that journey."
Parton launched the scheme in Britain in 2007, having pioneered it in the US.
She said she was motivated by her father's inability to read.
Helen Hastle, from the Dollywood Foundation UK, said the North Lincolnshire library was the first in the country to reach the millionth book milestone.
"What an achievement," she said.
"Bringing the joy of books and reading to so many children, with many building a fabulous home library from birth."
