New downtown Boise restaurant to debut this weekend where prior one suddenly closed

You might not realize it from the street, but a new downtown Boise restaurant plans to open this weekend.

Kichii Sushi & Spirits will debut Friday, according to its web page. The Japanese restaurant has taken over the former home of Bodovino, 404 S. 8th St. That wine bar and restaurant gave half a week’s notice on social media this summer before closing after 11 years.

Bodovino’s prominent exterior sign still looms above the entryway. But a smaller blue Kichii sign also glows on the brick building.

Kichii’s menu is posted online at Bodovino.com. (The Village at Meridian location of Bodovino remains open.) I can’t vouch for Kichii’s cuisine, but some Idahoans reportedly have sampled it during pre-opening service.

In addition to sushi-bar offerings, Kichii also serves ramen, a handful of “sharables” such as octopus ceviche, and three desserts: mochi, Japanese cheesecake and (not exactly Asian) s’mores.

Like Bodovino, Kichii has a full liquor bar, too.

“This new concept from the owner of Bodovino will feature an upscale fresh sushi and craft cocktail vibe along with a selection of mocktails, beers and over 60 wines by the glass,” Kichii promises online, “at affordable pricing.”

Kichii’s signature sushi rolls range from $14 to $17. A bowl of ramen is $15. Expect to pay around $14 for a typical signature cocktail. (Overall, signature cocktails range from $10 to $17.)

“This will be the ultimate date night destination for sushi lovers!” Kichii declares. “The interior will evoke eclectic Tokyo sushi bar, complete with neon and classic Japanese films. All-you-can-eat omakase will be available during happy hour.”

Kichii also offers good news for Bodovino customers who loved the self-serve wine pours purchased with reloadable, prepaid credit cards.

“Bodovino card holders may continue to use their wine cards, SuperCards and gift cards at Bodovino at The Village in Meridian,” it reassures online, “and will be able to utilize their cards at Kichii.”
