Downtown State College set to get a new bagel joint. What to know about Bagels & Co.

Centre County bagel lovers are in for a treat — another bagel-specialized eatery is coming to downtown State College.

Bagels & Co. is a Philadelphia-based bagel-and-coffee chain with 11 established and incoming locations across Pennsylvania and Florida — nine in Pennsylvania and two in the Sunshine State.

The eatery, which will be located at 330 W. College Ave. at The Standard apartment building, could open as early as this winter, according to Bagels & Co. co-owner Mike Marsh.

“We are planning to open near the end of this calendar year, but pending construction time, we may open in January,” Marsh wrote in an email. “We may even wait for the start of the spring semester — we should know more in the fall on timing.”

The State College eatery marks Bagels & Co.’s first Pennsylvania location outside of the Philadelphia area, and according to Marsh, opening a store in State College has long been in the company’s plans.

“We’ve heard from several alumni who frequently visit our stores in Philadelphia that we should bring a Bagels & Co. up to State College, so we listened,” Marsh wrote. “We love it up there — great atmosphere, large student body and a beautiful campus. We are excited to be located on the main drag and to be a great spot for students, faculty and residents to enjoy our bagels and coffee.”

One of Bagels & Co.’s partners is also a Penn State alumnus who provided insight on where and when to open the store, Marsh wrote.

Bagels & Co. is primarily known for its large variety of made-in-house bagels and colorful spreads, and offers an array of 30 different flavors. Other menu items include coffee and other specialty coffee drinks, matcha tea, parfaits, fruit cups and a variety of other pastries.

The eatery also offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free bagels, and runs a catering service for special events. Teachers and first responders who stop in are also eligible to receive a 10% discount on all menu items.

The eatery will employ around 15 to 20 employees and will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
