An English Country-Style House in a Tony Greenwich Enclave Hits the Market for $19 Million

The leafy neighborhoods and picturesque country lanes of Greenwich, Connecticut, are lined with impressive residences and sprawling estates with ties to some of America’s most illustrious families, such as the Rockefellers. Since it was developed in the 1980s by paper and publishing billionaire Peter Brant, the bucolic Conyers Farm Association (a boutique development of 95 multi-acre estates) has attracted A-listers like Ron Howard, Justin Timberlake, Tom Cruise, and former CNN anchor Paula Zahn, along with numerous professional athletes, including Ivan Lendl.

Newly available in the plum neighborhood at $19 million is an ivy-clad English manor-style home known as Stonehaven. The home is being sold by PJ Fonseca, CEO of The Fonseca Group, a McDonald’s franchisee that operates multiple restaurant locations throughout New York and New Jersey. Tax records show Fonseca purchased the home from pioneering sitcom writer and producer Michael Moye, whose credits include Good TimesThe Jeffersons, and Married…With Children. Moye acquired the almost 18.5-acre property in 1992 for $1.5 million and custom built the timeless estate. Under Fonseca’s stewardship, the home was renovated by interior designer Amy Aidnis Hirsch and is being offered completely furnished, so all you need to move in is your suitcase and toothbrush.

Stonehaven Greenwich Connecticut living room
The grandly proportioned step-down living room opens to a terrace and screened-in porch.

The home is fronted by a long, gated driveway flanked by towering mature trees. Exuding a rustic, homey charm from the exterior, the storybook mansion looks plucked from the English countryside, with stone turrets, half-timber detailing, and mullioned windows. Palatially proportioned with more than 14,200 square feet, there are a total of six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, plus four half bathrooms filtered across four sumptuous levels of living space.

Upon entering, you’re greeted with a double-height entry foyer with custom white oak millwork and a charming, built-in sitting area overlooking the wooded parcel. Farther in, the bright living room has tracery ceilings and one of the five wood-burning fireplaces found throughout the house. An adjoining screened-in porch is made cozy with overhead heaters.

The library/office is an intimate space with built-in bookshelves, a fireplace, a wet bar, and a private powder room, while it’s easy to imagine large gatherings in the mahogany-paneled formal dining room or more casually in the impressive kitchen that’s outfitted with a La Cornue range. The undisputed heart of the home, the kitchen includes a lounge with comfortable seating, both an eat-in island and a breakfast nook, and a butler’s pantry with a wine fridge, coffee station, and gleaming verre églomisé detailing.

The expansive great room contains the gourmet kitchen, a spacious dining area, and a cozy lounge.

The primary suite occupies its own private wing on the second floor with dramatic vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, a private terrace, two closets, and two bathrooms. The second level has four additional en suite bedrooms, plus a separate in-law or staff suite with a kitchenette.

Besides a sixth bedroom and bath, the top floor is dedicated to a massive playroom/media room, while the lower level’s myriad leisure and recreation options include a gym, a spa area with a cold plunge and sauna, a media room with a fireplace, a wine cellar, and an entertainment lounge with a sleek bar under a tented ceiling.

The secluded home is completely surrounded by acres of tranquil woodlands with no visible neighbors. A two-mile walking trail winds through the trees, while the carefully maintained areas around the house include broad terraces, expansive lawns, a freeform swimming pool amid stone terracing, and parking lot-sized motor court with a three-car garage.

Leslie McElwreath of Sotheby’s International Realty–Greenwich Brokerage holds the listing.
