Kensington Palace previously confirmed Kate Middleton and Prince William's children - Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven and Prince Louis, four - would be starting a new school in Berkshire in September.

The two eldest royals, who previously attended independent preparatory school Thomas's Battersea, have since joined Lambrook School near Ascot, to coincide with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. This year marks the first time the youngest Cambridge, Louis, is at school.

It's understood the couple's decision to leave their official residence Kensington Palace in London for Windsor was as a result of them wanting their children to lead a normal life with more freedom.

The Cambridges have marked myriad milestones within their kids' school life, from George's first day at nursery to the trio adapting to their new school in September.

Here's everything you need to know about Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis' school life:

Where did Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis previously attend school?

Prince George and Princess Charlotte started their education at Thomas’s Battersea in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

The eldest child of Kate Middleton and Prince William, Prince George, previously attended Westacre Montessori nursery before making the move.

Prince William took the then four-year-old royal to school on his first day without Kate Middleton, who was suffering from sever morning sickness during her pregnancy with the couple's third child, Prince Louis. Prince George's uniform comprised of navy shorts and a jacket, long red socks and black shoes.

The Duke of Cambridge drove his son through the school gates before helping him out of the car. He then carried Prince George's school bag and held his hand as they walked towards the building's entrance.

The pair were welcomed by Helen Haslem, Head of lower school, and the young prince shook her hand before being escorted to his first class.

Prince William told Haslem that Prince George had been eagerly watching and 'noticed' the other boys going into the school wearing their uniforms. And Haslem insisted there would be no special treatment for Prince George.

'We are going to try and make this a really happy, safe and secure time,' he said. 'I hope he will have the confidence to be himself with all his quirks and his idiosyncrasies and characteristics - that's what I would want for all of our children.'

Princess Charlotte later joined her big brother at Thomas’s Battersea in 2019. On September 5, both Prince William and Kate Middleton dropped off their daughter at the school gates, where she, too, was greeted by Haslem in the company of Prince George.

She clung to Middleton's hand while appearing both giddy and shy.

Prince William told Haslem that his daughter was 'very excited' about her first day at school.

Middleton asked Haslem: 'How are you? Did you have a nice summer?'

Princess Charlotte was later accompanied to her new classroom by her parents to meet her teacher and settle in.

The couple's daughter had previously been a pupil at Willcocks Nursery in Kensington.

Thomas’s Battersea, located on Battersea High Street, a 15-minute drive from Kensington Palace, caters for pupils aged four to 13.

After it was confirmed in May 2019 that Princess Charlotte would be attending the school, Headmaster Simon O’Malley said: 'We are delighted that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided that Princess Charlotte will join her elder brother, Prince George, at Thomas’s Battersea.

'We greatly look forward to welcoming her and all of our new pupils to the school in September.'

It was also revealed that Princess Charlotte would have a winter and summer uniform, as well as a PE kit, art smock and ballet shoes, all supplied by Perry in Chelsea. Her uniform comprised a navy jacket or cardigan with Thomas’s crest, showing a red unicorn reading a book.

As for what subject she studied, French, Computing, Art, Music, Drama and Ballet were included. She also got the chance to explore the outdoors.

Prince Louis started his first day at nursery in April 2021. Like his siblings, he was grinning from ear to ear and sported a backpack as he posed on a red walker bike. He also, like George and Charlotte, attended Willcocks Nursery School, near the family's Kensington Palace home.

A source told People: 'They chose that nursery because they thought it would be an ideal first step for Charlotte's education, and they were impressed by the team who work there.'

While his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte started nursery in January, it was believed Prince Louis' late start was to do with the latest lockdown in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The photo shared by the Cambridges' official Twitter account also marked his third birthday, and Kensington Palace shared in statement: 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to share a new photograph ahead of Prince Louis' third birthday tomorrow.'

Which school did Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis start in September 2022?

All three children joined Lambrook School near Ascot in September.

Kensington Palace previously confirmed all three of the children would be attending the school.

It's understood the couple want to give their brood more freedom. Their children's private education will reportedly set them back an excess of £53,000 a year.

The Palace said: 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have today announced that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will attend Lambrook School in Berkshire from September 2022.

'Their Royal Highnesses are hugely grateful to Thomas’s Battersea where George and Charlotte have had a happy start to their education since 2017 and 2019 respectively and are pleased to have found a school for all three of their children which shares a similar ethos and values to Thomas’s.

Having noticed one boy wearing a tie, the Princess of Wales asked him: 'Do you tie your own tie?' and the little boy told her he does, as per Hello!

Middleton then revealed: 'Well done you. I've been teaching George because he has got to wear a tie now for school, so I'm having to teach him how to do it.

She then gushed: 'But well done, you've done a good job with your tie. Nice to meet you.'

Why did Kate Middleton and Prince William uproot their children from Thomas's Battersea?

It's believed the royal couple want to give their children a normal childhood. Royal expert Omid Scobie told Yahoo! that the couple want their kids to have 'as normal a life as possible'.

The Daily Mail previously reported that the couple's move from their permanent residence at Kensington Palace, London to Windsor would be so they could 'be closer to the Queen'.

Her Majesty sadly passed away on September 8 at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Prior to her death, she primarily resided at Windsor Castle as opposed to Buckingham Palace.
