Fall Beauty: 8 Ways to Get Luminous Skin

Glowing skin doesn’t have to be a warm weather beauty trend — doesn’t everyone want radiant skin year round? Now, thanks to the new crop of highlighting and strobing products, it’s becoming easier than ever to obtain that perfect glow. We enlisted makeup artist Beau Nelson, whose celeb clients include Nina Dobrev and Nicole Richie, for his tips for achieving luminous skin during turtleneck season.

Find your shade

Just like selecting a blush or bronzer, your skin tone comes into play when choosing a highlighter. Nelson says to stick with pale, silvery champagne and pink shades if you have fair skin. Medium skin tones should look for warm champagne and rose gold shades, and deep skin tones should pick up a product in warm gold, copper, or bronze.

Use your fingers

“Apply the product with your fingers in a repetitive tapping motion so that it blends beautifully without disturbing foundation underneath,” advises Nelson. He suggests applying your strobing product before adding any powder to the face. You’ll also want to avoid powdering on top of any spot where you’ve applied the highlighting product so you don’t lose luminosity.

Apply strategically

Nelson likes to use these products on the tops of cheekbones, the inner corners of eyes, at the Cupid’s bow, and down the center of the nose in a thin line (this makes your nose look thinner and straighter). It’s important to use these products sparingly — apply too much and you’ll risk looking a bit like a Star Wars droid.
