A 'February freeze' is coming – here's what to know about the UK snow forecast
Just as the first signs of spring are beginning to emerge, a 'February freeze' is predicted to sweep across the UK.
According to recent reports and interactive maps from WXCHARTS, wintery weather could be on the way once again with chilly conditions set to hit areas including London, Southhampton and Bristol from the middle of February.
In Wales, Cardiff could see the highest levels of snowfall with around 8cm, while Scotland and Cumbria could also see flurries.
The Met Office has said that a high-pressure system will sit to the east of the UK until Sunday 9th February, before frost, sleet, and snow could make an appearance.
"There are signs for the middle of the month for another very cold snap on the way," Jim Dale, a meteorologist for British Weather Services, told GBN news.
"There could be a sooner taste of this with colder weather on the way this weekend, but the killer could come at around the second week when a shift of the Polar Vortex could see it coming down over the UK. This is something we are keeping a close watch on as winter is definitely not over yet."
A spokesperson from The Met Office told Country Living that while cold weather is expected, there won't be another 'beast from the east'.
"Daytime temperatures are likely to be below average, with the breeze adding to the cold feel. Overnight, some frost is likely, especially where skies are clear across parts of the north and west," they told us.
"Whilst the emphasis will be on a fair amount of dry weather, some wintry showers are possible, perhaps more likely for windward coasts in the south.
"The most likely scenario at present for later next week is for a continuation of this broad weather pattern, which is entirely typical for this time of year, and at the moment we are not forecasting a 'beast from the east' type severe weather event as some online reporting is alluding to."
