First 2024 Ford Mustang Sells for $565,000Ford

The first production 2024 Ford Mustang sold at auction for a whopping $565,000 on Saturday, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to charity.

The sale of Mustang VIN 001, a 486-hp 5.0-liter V-8-powered GT model, took place during Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale, Arizona event on January 28. The money will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which funds type 1 diabetes research.

While a 2024 Mustang was rolled across the block at the time of the auction, it wasn't the car in question, as production has yet to begin. The lucky buyer will instead get to spec VIN 001 to their desire, able to pick through a range of 11 exterior colors, several wheel designs, and three different brake caliper colors. We're hoping whomever is speccing this car picks the six-speed manual transmission.

If you missed out on bidding for a chance to win VIN 001, don't worry. The 2024 Ford Mustang is set to go on sale later this year. Pricing has yet to be revealed, though we expect the base EcoBoost-powered model to start at around $30,000. The V-8-powered GT will likely be priced closer to $40,000.
