If you thought Yellowjackets couldn’t get any darker, the series’ second season said, “hold my glass of human blood.” The latest chapter of Showtime’s hit show took us deeper into the surviving teen soccer players’ unraveling psyches — both in their brutal 1996 wilderness nightmare and their equally messy present-day lives. Season 2 was a lot! As the third season premieres, let’s revisit our home team one more time and recap what happened last season.

1996: The girls are not alright

Winter has officially arrived, and with food running out, the team is starving. Shauna — still pregnant and fully grieving Jackie’s death — is stunned to learn that her teammates want to enjoy her popsicled bestie for girl dinner. The Yellowjackets officially cross the cannibalism threshold in horrifying and ceremonial fashion. This brings us to Lottie, master of said ceremonies. Our culty girl is suffering from visions and winning the loyalty of Van and Misty, while Tai’s sleepwalking alter ego considers her options. This show has boys too: Javi — who was presumed dead — returns, only to meet a tragic (and highly suspicious) fate.

The biggest gut-punch of the season? Shauna’s pregnancy doesn’t end the way fans feared— it’s actually worse. A devastating hallucination sequence leads to the stillbirth of her baby, leaving Shauna emotionally wrecked and the group this close to losing their collective minds. By the season’s end, the team is no longer just trying to survive; They’re embracing something much, much darker.

Present Day: Hunters gonna hunt

Remember when Shauna killed her lover? That’s still top of mind, and our girl is spiralling with the cops and her family both way too close to the truth. Misty, in full chaos mode, joins forces with an equally odd Citizen Detective Walter (Elijah Wood being a delightful weirdo), to track down a missing Natalie — who, plot twist, has been kidnapped by none other than Lottie. But don’t worry, it’s wellness retreat kidnapping, not basement torture (this time).

Speaking of Lottie, our former antler-wearing wilderness guru is now running a commune-slash-therapy cult where “healing” looks a lot like reenacting the past. Meanwhile, Tai is battling her doppelgänger self and rekindling something complicated with Van (yes, she’s alive! But also not thriving). As for Natalie? She’s forced to confront her trauma in ways that hint that maybe, just maybe, their past is more than just survivor’s guilt on steroids.

As the group reunites at Lottie’s retreat, the tension explodes into a literal hunt, mirroring their past wilderness rituals. And in the biggest shock of all, Natalie is the one who ends up dead — a tragic, twisted end for one of the show’s most tortured characters. Lottie’s final words? “It is still with us.”

And with that, you are ready for season 3, which just premiered on 14th February 14, 2025. Happy Valentine's Day, I guess!
