Fox meteorologist Jessica Starr dies by suicide

Jessica Starr, a meteorologist for Fox 2 in Detroit, has died.

According to a story Thursday on the news outlet’s website, Starr died by suicide.

“Last night we were informed of the heartbreaking news that our friend and colleague, meteorologist Jessica Starr took her life,” the station shared. “All of us here at Fox 2 are in deep shock and cannot believe that such a wonderful, bright and intelligent individual will no longer be with us. Her family” — she was a mom to two young children — “and friends will be in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days as we all deal with our grief.”

Morning news anchor Amy Andrews paid tribute to her colleague on Twitter, calling Starr “a wonderful, bright and intelligent woman.” She also asked for prayers for Starr’s family.

Other colleagues spoke out as well:

Starr recently took time off from work as she recovered from laser eye surgery — a procedure which seemed to necessitate a longer healing time than she expected. During a Facebook Live on Nov. 13, she thanked her fans for her support after they had expressed worry about where she had been and said it was her first day back. The next day, she posted online that she had returned to work too soon and needed more time to recover during the “challenging time.” That was her last post on her public page.

Starr was a Michigan native. She received two meteorology degrees, from Michigan State University and Mississippi State University.
