Free-To-Play ‘Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera’ To Shutter This Fall
Activision will be shutting down its free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone. The game is presently known as Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera, having been renamed after the Caldera map following its November 2.0 update.
CoD fans flocked to Warzone Caldera after its debut in 2020, reportedly accruing 30 million active players just ten days after its launch, per Engadget. Now those players will have to allocate their gameplay elsewhere as developers prepare to shutter the game on September 21.
Activision said that it plans to focus its efforts on “new experiences” across consoles and PC.
“We all have had incredible Warzone experiences across the Call of Duty franchise since its first launch, including those in Warzone Caldera,” the studio wrote in a blog post. “For those players who haven’t jumped over to the current Warzone activities, expect a vast amount of gameplay choices across three Battle Royale maps (including Season 04’s new map Vondel), as well as Ranked Play, the DMZ Beta featuring five different Extraction Zones, BlackCell offerings, and more.”
Content purchased in Warzone Caldera from Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard will still be available in those games. Players will however lose all their progression. Activision seems to be encouraging players to switch over to the more recent Warzone 2.0.
