This ‘game-changing’ SC hotel ranks among world’s best new places to stay. Here’s why

A “game-changing” hotel is making a name for itself — just months after opening its doors to South Carolina visitors.

And now, the hotel ranks among the world’s best new places to stay. The destination — The Pinch in Charleston — was one of 100 places to earn a spot on the global list of top-notch hotel openings, according to results published April 16.

Travel + Leisure magazine said it created the rankings after studying more than 200 hotels that started welcoming visitors during the year leading up to February 2024. Its team visited roughly 130 of the accommodations to determine the “can’t miss openings (and re-openings).”

“Over the past year, the editors reviewed hundreds of new and renovated properties across the globe, which were then narrowed to just 100 in total,” the magazine wrote in a news release.

What makes the Charleston hotel special?

The Pinch joined other top-ranked hotels on the “It List,” a collection of the “most game-changing” hotel debuts. Editor-in-Chief Jacqui Gifford called the rankings “a celebration of transformation and discovery, spotlighting hidden gems and reborn icons,” according to the release.

In Charleston, The Pinch is located “down a cobblestone alley,” near the popular shopping destination of King Street. The hotel had a soft launch in 2022, but November 2023 marked the official opening of the property, including its two restaurants, The Quinte and Lowland, Travel + Leisure told McClatchy News in an email.

The two restaurants — an oyster bar and a fine-dining spot, respectively — are known for serving takes on Southern favorites. And if you’re still hungry in your room, The Pinch received praise for its mix of minibar offerings.

Travel + Leisure also said the suites are “furnished tip to toe in sumptuous materials,” including marble sinks and velvet couches. There are washer-dryer units and white noise machines in each room. Rates start at $300 per night, and long-stay discounts are available.

“You’ll have plenty of space to get comfortable, and more than enough hints of tasteful delight,” the hotel wrote on its website. “From handpicked artwork to a fully equipped kitchen and much, much more, you may never want to leave.”

The Pinch was the only South Carolina hotel to land on Travel + Leisure’s list. Of the top 100 hotels, 36 were in North America, results show.
