Even for those who were fortunate enough to stay healthy, the global pandemic changed a lot of plans in 2020: home schooling, canceled vacations, and lots of lots of would-be newlyweds putting their big days on hold. And while you might think that something like being Oprah Winfrey's goddaughter would exempt you from such considerations, Gayle King's daughter Kirby Bumpus and her fiancee Virgil Miller were forced to postpone their nuptials just like so many others. Until recently, that is.

Yesterday, King shared the news that back in December the happy couple were finally able to tie the knot—in pared down, socially distanced fashion, of course. Along with safety protocols like conducting her dress fittings via Zoom and not being able to be physically close to family and friends on the day, the couple also had to celebrate with a significantly pared down guest list for their ceremony at Oprah's Santa Barbara home. Just 6 people total were in attendance: Oprah, her husband Stedman, King, and her son Will who stepped in to officiate the service.

"It wasn't the wedding we planned, but it was absolutely perfect," King told O Magazine. She added, "Kirby really is so happy, and nothing beats when your children are happy."

King told CBS This Morning that they had kept the news quiet since December out of respect for Kirby's wishes to keep things between family and friends, but was excited to finally be able to reveal the happy news to the world along with some sweet photos by photographer Joe Pugliese.
