Gemma Chan channels a modern day Audrey Hepburn with baby bangs
Gemma Chan never fails to deliver breathtaking red carpet moments. Part of the appeal is how the 40-year old English actor, L'Oréal Paris ambassador and former Bazaar cover star is unafraid to bring her personality into her hair and make-up by adding gentle touches of bold tones such as silver eyeshadow and a berry lip into an otherwise classic look.
For her 2023 Cannes Film Festival appearance for the film Monster, Chan brought a modern twist to the classic Audrey Hepburn fringe and up-do. Instead of a blunt cut, her hairstylist Stephane Lancien created a tousled, textured finish to the choppy, layered bangs. The Crazy Rich Asians star is often spotted with wavy lengths and face-framing pieces so there is a possibility that Chan's new fringe is the of the faux variety. Similar to hair extensions, clip-in fringes are a brilliant option for anyone who wants to trial the style before making a commitment, but there are clever tricks to ensure the hair piece blends seamlessly into your hair and appears natural.
A-list hairstylist Adir Abergel is a big fan of using fringes to create transformative hairstyles. Having recently made-over Kristen Stewart's hair with a clip-in version, he told Bazaar: "You can bring out a lot of personality with a fringe, depending on what kind of fringe you do: straight across, a Betty Page 1940s bang, a choppy, undone fringe, or a French girl curtain bang – they all have a different feeling, and they can give you your own style." He further explains: "it’s about looking at your face and framing it around that."
In the case of Chan's hair, it's all about matching the colour and texture perfectly to the her natural locks. If you're keen to sport a fringe at your next dinner party, try Easilocks which has an extensive colour range.
