As far as red carpets go, the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story premieres have looked some of the most fun in recent months, especially when it comes to the stylish ensembles put together by the Netflix film’s actors. The latest eye-catching outfit? Kate Hudson’s sequinned, ab-baring bandeau dress.

Hudson, 43, channelled a combination of Disney princesses in a midriff-exposed dress as she walked the premiere red carpet for the second Knives Out vehicle in Madrid with fellow co-star Janelle Monáe.

A multi-colour sequin and ruched lilac top half resembled Aladdin’s Princess Jasmine, whereas the juxtaposition of the lilac bandeau with the full sequined column skirt definitely gave off hints of our favourite Disney mermaid, Ariel.

The Almost Famous actor wore her long blonde hair in a sleek low ponytail and completed the Sophie Lopez-styled look with Messika jewellery.

Simple in its design, yet high-octane in its execution, the sequin creation – made by London-based brand Halpern, which is known for its sequin styles – hit refresh on the red carpet styles of late.

As did Janelle Monáe’s larger-than-life deep red ruffled ensemble. Monáe – who identifies as non-binary, and uses both they/them and her/she pronouns – looked like she was having the time of her life as she posed up a storm for the cameras on the red carpet.

And why not? Her Robert Wun pleated and ruffled mini dress (which wasn’t far off Rhianna’s Comme des Garçons number for the 2017 Met Gala) was a playful take on her some of her previous avant-garde looks and brought a little taste of exactly what we want on a red carpet: fun, exciting looks.

Monáe, along with stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn, has carved out a niche in celebrity dressing, and genuinely seems to loves the thrill that fashion can provide, but it looks like her co-star Hudson has taken a leaf out of her book.

The very next day, the mother-of-three opted for a vibrant, dopamine-inducing neon green trouser suit for a photocall, whilst Monáe herself chose a more relaxed version of her own black-and-white Marc Jacobs look for the 2018 Met Gala, this time teaming the monochrome pleated dress with a matching black bowler hat.

Even Daniel Craig got in on some of the fun fashion action, accessorising his pale blue linen blazer with a pair of yellow-lense sunglasses for a subtle twist, which is only to be expected given the playful, quirky nature of the three actors’ latest film.
