Gwen Stefani Says She Is Returning to “The Voice” to “Destroy” Blake Shelton

From Woman's Day

Gwen Stefani is returning to season 19 of The Voice as a coach after taking a one-year hiatus from the show—and she means business. On Wednesday, the “Nobody But You” singer shared a promotional video to Instagram, where she revealed her plans to take out longtime boyfriend Blake Shelton, who is also a coach on the show this season.

“Gwen is special, creative, and super hot,” Shelton said in the video, while Stefani laughed in her chair. “Blake is incredibly generous. I love you!” she replied to the country star.

But this is The Voice, and the couple has no choice but to compete against each other.

“This is a dog eat dog business. There’s no feelings,” Shelton said. Sneak peaks of the season appeared on screen, showing Shelton laughing and pointing in the middle of the competition. Then, Stefani jokingly revealed her true intentions for this new season.

“The whole reason to come on this show is to destroy Blake,” Stefani said. Shelton, looking shocked, replied, “Shots have been fired!”

Voice fans were stoked to see Stefani return to the show after NBC announced that she would be replacing Nick Jonas as judge in June 2020. The former “No Doubt” singer was previously a coach in seasons 7, 9, 12, and 17 before joining the show once again in 2020. Fun fact: She actually met Shelton on the set of The Voice in 2015.

“TEAM GWEN ALL THE WAY PERIOD!!!” one fan wrote to Stefani’s post, while another person commented, “They TOTALLY make the voice 💕.” Someone else added, “Gwen... you were missed last season... you make the show better.”

On Tuesday, the official Voice Instagram account shared a photo of the coaching lineup for season 19, which includes Stefani and Shelton, as well returning coaches Kelly Clarkson and John Legend.

Many fans agreed that this is the “best coaching lineup of all time,” but others were sad to see Jonas leave the show after joining as a coach for the first time for season 18.

“I wish Nick stayed for another season. Hopefully he’ll come back for the next one!” a fan commented.

Either way, the tensions are high this season. Season 19 of The Voice premieres on NBC on October 19. We honestly can’t wait!
