A Hairstylist Reminded the World How Incredible Nurses Are With One Facebook Post

From Good Housekeeping

Out of all the career fields out there, nursing might just be one of the most under-appreciated. The long hours, the night shifts and the high-stress nature of the job seem to get overlooked, as more high-profile medical professionals such as surgeons or doctors steal the limelight.

In reality, the time and care that nurses give patients every day (and at all hours of the night) is so important, and Ashley Bolling, a hairstylist from Jenkins, Kentucky, wants everyone to know. Realization hit her last Tuesday when she was highlighting the hair of a nurse who has just finished a long night shift. The nurse fell asleep in the chair, and suddenly Bolling had what she calls a "stop-in-your-tracks" moment. Afterwards, she took to Facebook to share her realization with a simple photo and some heartfelt words.

"As she dozed off, I gently rested her head on my stomach and continued to foil her hair ... then I noticed her shoes. I wondered how many miles those shoes have walked. I wondered what they'd walked through. Blood? Tears? In and out of the countless rooms of the patients she's cared for? I wondered how many hours they've carried her, and all those like her, while they literally save the lives of those we love and hold the hands of the ones who can no longer fight that fight," Bollins wrote on Facebook, adding how honored she felt to be able to take care of such a selfless person, even if just for a few hours.

The post has since received over 18,000 likes and 6,000 shares on Facebook, and her message has definitely resonated with Facebook users everywhere. In fact, many nurses started tagging their own hairdressers in comments on the post, to show their appreciation.

Eventually Bolling's message snowballed into a total love fest (cue the waterworks) as professionals from all career fields shared kind words and appreciation for nurses and hairstylists everywhere.

"Such a touching observation and God Bless all nurses and medical care givers. Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness," one woman wrote among an outpouring of comments. "God bless you, Ashley Bolling! A friend shared this story with me, and this nurse of 30+ years appreciates you and your fellow stylists," wrote another.

Plost Twist: The pictured nurse actually brought the hairstylist breakfast after her night-shift - talk about a caring person. Admittedly, we love nurses too, and we hope Bolling's message continues to spread.

"I've always respected and valued these amazing super-heroes and am proud to be the sister, daughter, niece, friend and hairstylist of so many," she ended her post. "Know you are appreciated, know you are irreplaceable, know you are loved!"
