Halloween is a time for us to explore a world completely different from our own. Even with all the limitations that this year may bring, you can still jump into another dimension, time period or fictional world with Halloween Zoom backgrounds. Here's the ultimate Fright Night: Plan a virtual happy hour, ask all of your family and friends to dress up in costume, and then shock them with one of these virtual backgrounds.
Some of these backgrounds may help bring your costume to life (say, you go for a pop culture costume like Moira from Schitt's Creek), while others lean into the sights and frights of the holiday. Since we know not everyone wants to bring the creep factor to their work meetings, virtual activities or family calls, we've also included some fall-centric Zoom backgrounds that you can use on all your calls from now through Thanksgiving.
In case you haven't mastered Zoom yet (trust us, we get it), follow these instructions when it comes time to swap out your background:
Download the Halloween background of your choice — one, two, you can switch them out as often as you please!
After you sign into a Zoom call, look for an icon that says "Stop video" in the bottom left corner of the window. Click the arrow to the right side of it, and select "Choose a virtual background."
Upload as many backgrounds as you'd like, and switch them whenever you please.
Now, browse through these festive virtual backgrounds to make the most out of the holiday — and then cozy up in your Halloween pajamas or costume before you start the call.
Trolls World Tour
Grab your mic and hit the stage with Poppy and friends. A few minutes before hopping on the call, warm up your vocal chords by singing your very own rendition of "Trolls Just Wanna Have Fun."
The Great Jack-o'-Lantern Blaze
Even if you can't swing a visit to this Hudson Valley spectacle, you can play pretend with one of these virtual backgrounds. Light up your screen with dozens of illuminated pumpkins — a sliver of the 7,000 jack-o'-lanterns on display during The Great Jack-o'-Lantern Blaze every October.
It's your pick: Browse through these backgrounds from Claire's — yep, your tween's favorite store — to find a scary(ish) background or something totally sweet. Your kids will love 'em, but the other adults on the call will think they're cute, too.
Stick to an autumnal theme with these seasonal Zoom backgrounds, featuring everything Hallmark's Fall Harvest movies are known for: perfectly stacked pumpkins, roaring fires and hay bales galore.
Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights
Even if you can't make it to Halloween Horror Nights this year, you can experience the magic right at home with these ultra-creepy backgrounds.
Keep it work-appropriate by setting Dunder Mifflin as your stage. Bust out your "World's Best Boss" mug and call it a Michael Scott costume.
If you're looking for something that won't fright the little monsters in your life, go with these seasonal floral backgrounds. You can use 'em all the way until Thanksgiving!
Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Not exactly scary, but not quite unicorns and rainbows either. Step into the Harry Potter movies with these backgrounds taken from its eerily empty Florida theme park, Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
There's no better way to celebrate Schitt's Creek's incredible number of Emmy wins than by dressing up as one of the show's main characters. Set Rose Apothecary or Rosebud Motel a your background, so your friends can make sense of it all.
You've been talking about The Mandalorian since season 2 ended last year, but now you can show everyone else exactly what they're missing with these Star Wars-themed backgrounds. We kid, we kid.
