Free Summer Breakfast: First United Methodist Church of Olympia has been given a grant to provide breakfast to families in our community free of charge on Sunday mornings during the summer. The church at 1224 Legion Way SE will be serving hot breakfast weekly along with fruits, yogurt and cereals. Attendees do not need to be a member or regular attender of the church to participate. After breakfast, your family is invited to stay for church and coffee hour, but this is NOT a requirement when you come for breakfast. If your household would like to attend, please let the church know through its Facebook page so it can plan for the amount of food to prepare. First United Methodist Church of Olympia says it welcomes people of all ages, all abilities, all sexual orientations and gender identities, all nationalities and ethnicities, the poor and the rich, single people and the many forms of family.

Lacey in Tune Children’s Entertainment: Peter Irish will bring his outdoor festival and fair show to Huntamer Park, 618 Woodland Square Loop SE, Lacey, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The city says the free juggling show “is an extravaganza of astounding skill, comedy for the whole family, audience participation and loads of fun. ... He has spent a lifetime perfecting stunts and action comedy that is unique in the world of variety entertainment. Juggling with the feet while jumping a rope, yoga with a flaming chair balanced on his face — these are just a few of the things that will leave the crowd amazed.” Sunshine Scoop Ice Cream and River Ridge High School Band Boosters (Kettle Corn) will be selling snacks on site. 2024 Thurston County Fair opens: The five-day fair opens Wednesday and runs through Sunday at the fairgrounds, 3054 Carpenter Road SE, Olympia. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday; the carnival rides will open at 11 a.m. and run until 11 p.m. each day except Sunday, when they close down at 8 p.m. Admission is $1 per person on Wednesday with a non-perishable food item donation to the Thurston County Food Bank “Can Hunger” program. Kids 14 and younger get in for $2 on Thursday; active duty military with ID get in for $2 on Friday. Otherwise, admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors over 60, $7 for kids 6-14 years old, and free for those 5 and younger. For more information, go to the fair’s website.

Music in the Park at Port Plaza: The final concert in this season’s free outdoor music series that showcases local and regional musicians will feature Creedence Revelation, a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band, playing at Port Plaza at the north end of the Percival Landing boardwalk. The hourlong concert begins at 7 p.m.

Lacey in Tune features Wally and the Beaves: Listen to your favorite tunes with Wally & The Beaves, a 7-piece, oldies variety band from the Pacific Northwest performing songs from the 1950s through the ‘80s (and more). Each member of the band brings a bit of humor by dressing like well-known iconic characters from the era. The free concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Huntamer Park, 618 Woodland Square Loop SE, Lacey. Thursday, Aug. 1

Reptile Lady at Summer Library Program: Snakes, alligators, and lizards will all be part of a free, interactive program with April Jackson, the Reptile Lady, at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Olympia Timberland Library, 313 Eighth Ave SE.. Learn about having love and respect for reptiles. Get up close and personal with her reptile ambassadors…if you dare! For families with children of all ages. Adult supervision is required.

Saturday, Aug. 3

Thurston County Furniture Bank: The nonprofit all-volunteer Thurston County Furniture Bank is open the first and third Saturdays of every month from 9 a.m. to noon at 2121 Log Cabin Road SE, Olympia. The Furniture Bank building is at the back of the parking lot. Donations of gently used furniture are accepted. Pick up of donations can be arranged but usually takes 3-4 weeks. Those looking for furniture are welcomed.
