It didn't take long for Lovecraft Country to become an instant hit on HBO.

The American sci-fi horror drama, which is based on Matt Ruff's novel of the same name, follows the journey of Atticus "Tic" Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) and friend Leti (Jurnee Smollett) embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America. Together, the three are in search of finding Atticus's missing father, Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams), and must overcome both terrifying monsters and racism in America.

At the end of season one, fans watched in terror as Tic's blood was drained from his arm in the Autumnal Equinox ceremony. While the season one finale marked the end of Tic's life, it sounds like showrunner Misha Green has plenty of future plans for the rest of the Lovecraft Country crew.

Will there be a Lovecraft Country season 2?

While HBO has yet to confirm that a second installment of the horror series has been ordered, Misha did hint to Rolling Stone that round two is a definite possibility. "We’re in talks with HBO," she told the outlet before later adding, "I’m excited about exploring season two and what we have in mind. Nothing’s official."

Despite the show's leading man getting killed off at the end of the first season, Misha is confident that "the world that was created in season one can be opened up in so many ways."

What's more, HBO's chief content officer Casey Bloys recently told Deadline that Misha is working with a group of writers and coming up with a "take."

"She had a book to go on in the first season, she and the writers wanted to go off and take some time to go out and figure out without a book with these characters, what’s the journey we want to go on," he said. "We all want to be sure she’s got a story to tell. That’s where she is right now, working on those ideas. I’m very hopeful, as is Misha, so we’re giving them the time to work."

Who would be in the Lovecraft Country season 2 cast?

Given that their roles are central to the show's plot, it's likely Jurnee Smollett (Leti), Michael Kenneth Williams (Montrose), Aunjanue Ellis (Hippolyta), Jada Harris (Diana), Wunmi Mosaku (Ruby), and Jamie Chung (Ji-Ah) will all be returning. As for our Tic, a.k.a. Jonathan Majors, we assume his character is gone from the story for good. But then again, Jonathan did tell Entertainment Weekly that he would gladly return if the show could find a way to bring Tic back from the dead.

"If the angels that be see fit that I continue in some twist, however they’re going to do it, then that’s what they’ve ordained and that’s what I would do," he told the outlet.
