Hey Kit Kat: Please Bring These International Flavors to the US

Break me off a piece of these, please, I'm begging.

Every year, Kit Kats reign supreme as one of the top 10 Halloween candies—and with all the limited-edition flavors, it’s cemented itself as a year-round staple, too. For good reason, there’s nothing quite like breaking into the crispy, chocolate-coated wafer candy bar that is a Kit Kat.

We’ll never turn down the classic Kit Kat, and its Mint and Dark Chocolate duo is, of course, a fan favorite; however, as with so many of our American staples—like McDonald’s and Lay’s—Kit Kat flavors are different in varying parts of the world.

Even though there’s really no excuse for Heinz to sell special baked beans in the U.K. and Costco to offer cheeseburgers in Japan but not the U.S., there’s an actual reason Kit Kats are different outside of America.

The Kit Kar bar we know in the States is made by The Hershey Company, while Kit Kats outside of the U.S. are made by Nestlé. That’s why countries like Japan, Canada, and the U.K. all have different flavors, like hazelnut and orange, and even different Kit Kat products, like Chunky bars and Pops. So, here is our official call for Hershey to somehow get these Kit Kat flavors stateside.

Chocolate Orange

Chocolate and orange may seem like a polarizing flavor, but if you’ve ever had the British jaffa cake, then you know it works. So, it should come as no surprise that the U.K. sells an Orange Chocolate Kit Kat with orange-flavored milk chocolate coating crispy wafers.

Japan also has an Orange Chocolate Kit Kat, made with the Japanese Iyokan citrus fruit. Maybe the U.S. isn’t ready for the choco-orange combo, but if you are, you can actually buy Japanese Kit Kats (like Chocolate Orange) on specialty sites, like Bokksu.

Biscoff

Lotus Biscoff has teamed up with U.S.-based brands before, like Krispy Kreme and Häagen-Dazs, so why not Kit Kat? Nestlé U.K. & Ireland jumped on the cookie butter train with Kit Kat Bites and Kit Kat Chunky made with Biscoff cookies. The candy bars feature real Biscoff speculoos spread and cookie crumbs with white or milk chocolate, depending on the variety you choose.

Chunky Peanut Butter

We know Hershey already makes the Kit Kat Big Kat, which is essentially the OG Chunky that Nestlé sells. But, in a perfect world, we’d also get the Chunky Peanut Butter flavor that sells alongside Nestlé’s version.

When Hershey is pumping out Reese’s, how have they never thought to add a little peanut butter to the Kit Kat bar, too? We’d definitely buy it.

Strawberry

Yes, we do have Strawberry and Dark Chocolate Kit Kat duos, which provide the amazing chocolate-covered strawberry experience. However, Japan sells plain Strawberry Kit Kats that steal the show.

Similar to Kit Kat’s newer fruity flavors, like Pink Lemonade and Lemon Crisp, these Kit Kats aren’t made with chocolate, but rather a strawberry-flavored creme. We’re essentially halfway there on this one, so we’re holding out hope.

Cookie Crumble

This flavor seems like such a no-brainer, we can’t believe that Kit Kat and Oreo haven’t capitalized on it yet. Canada’s Cookie Crumble bar has crumbly chocolate cookie pieces on the classic Kit Kat wafer, all encased in milk chocolate. While this one is meant for double chocolate lovers, we could see a cookies and cream Kit Kat—like the one in Japan—selling very well.
