A new men's shampoo commercial featuring video footage of Adolf Hitler has gone viral and many say including the Nazi leader in the ad is extremely offensive. According to theAFP, the Anti-Defamation League have already filed formal complaints.
The commercial is for a Turkish product called Biomen, and uses video footage of Hitler with a voiceover. "If you are not wearing a woman's dress, you should not use her shampoo either," Hitler appears to say in the ad. "Here it is, a real mens' shampoo, Biomen."The commercial has been running in Turkey for about a week.
We have a feeling the marketing people behind Biomen deliberately wanted to shock people with the controversial ad. While they certainly have gotten people talking about their product, joking about Adolf Hitler and using him as a product spokesperson is appalling, and might be enough for some people to boycott Biomen altogether.
The Jewish Turkish community made their disapproval known through a public statement. "It's totally unacceptable to make use of Hitler, the most striking example of cruelty and savagery." Jewish Organizations throughout the country are asking the ad agency to pull the commercial.
National Director and Holocaust survivor Abraham H. Foxman also released a statement explaining why he found this imagery so disturbing.
"The use of images of the violently anti-Semitic dictator who was responsible for the mass murder of 6 million Jews and millions of others in the Holocaust to sell shampoo is a disgusting and deplorable marketing ploy," Foxman said. "It is an insult to the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust, those who survived, and those who fought to defeat the Nazis."We'd have to agree, and don't really see another side to this argument.
