Conjoined Cowboy Boots: The Newest Fashion Week Trend?
Shayne Oliver is the designer that disrupted it all. The Hood By Air creative director pioneered the androgynous street wear look that’s now all over the runways and, well, the streets. It’s no wonder his celeb clientele includes tastemakers like Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar.
He’s also not afraid of a little — okay, a lot — of weird. His most recent show at New York Fashion Week was sponsored by none other than PornHub (no, really), featured shirts with prominent slogans like “Wench” (meant to be worn by any gender, naturally), and, oddest of all, a pair of conjoined cowboy boots. Can I Kick it: It would be a crime to talk about Hood By Air’s spring show without mentioning those conjoined cowboy boots. They were designed in collaboration with FRYE, maker of classic boots.
We have no words except: Oh. My. God. Imagine what’d be going through the mind of a detective trying to trace the footprints of someone wearing these. If Lady Gaga ever decides to lay off the platforms, these may just be the boots for her.
Wondering about the price? So are we. No word yet on whether this style is runway-only, or will actually be produced for sale, but other styles of HBA boots start at $800, so these babies won’t be cheap. We can’t wait to spot them in the wild.

The Designer: Known for his deconstructed and irreverent designs, this season, Oliver’s collection “Handkerchief,” consisted of deconstructed menswear pieces like blazers, white shirts, and slacks, reconstructed with thigh-high zippers and as halter tops. There were also cheeky logos and graphics on many of the pieces, including some that read “Wench,” “Never Trust a Church Girl,” and several of the collection’s main sponsor, the one and only PornHub. Nope, this wasn’t your mama’s fashion show.

The Front Row: The eclectic front row was packed with big-time fashion editors like Vogue’s Tonne Goodman, Nicole Phelps, and Lynn Yaeger, plus fashion muse Jaden Smith and hip hop royalty Rick Ross. Who do you think’s gonna snag one of those PornHub tees first?

The Scene: The show took place in NYC’s sparsely decorated Moynihan Station, which, prior to the show, was flooded with the sounds of some not totally pleasant human-like noises: think coughing, tongue-clicking, etc. But as soon as the runway lights went up, the soundtrack switched to more upbeat music (thank god). It was like leaving a bad trip and entering into this hedonistic high (or so we’d imagine, anyway). The last song that played? “I Touch Myself” by Divinyls.

The Sell-Out: There’s no doubt the HUSTLER tops will be a huge seller. Everyone who either wants to be one or be WITH one will be waiting outside store doors or by their digital devices waiting for those bad boys to be released.
