I bought 5 of Amazon's most popular cardigans — here's my honest review (they're all under $50 right now!)

Amazon clothing can be hit or miss. How do these cardigans stack up?

Are these trending Amazon cardigans any good? I put them to the test (Photos via author).

I live in cardigans in the winter. My favourite is a wool-blend number I bought almost a decade ago — but after years of wear, it had seen better days. When searching for a new cardigan for 2025, I stumbled upon this bestselling long maxi cardigan from GRACE KARIN on Amazon Canada. That also led me to spotting this chunky sweater from Wyeysyt, as well as some other trending Amazon numbers.

All in all, I ended up snagging five different cardigans from Amazon — all under $50. Did any of them live up to the hype? Keep scrolling for my honest review of each, and to find out which I loved the most— and which one I'd never buy again.

This lightweight cardigan is available in 17 different colourways.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable
  • Has pockets
  • Offered in many different colours
Cons
  • Fabric is very thin
$40 at Amazon

What I like about it: Out of all the sweaters I ordered, this one came packaged and wrapped up the nicest. The fabric is thin, but it fits true to size, which makes it a great base for winter — it even fits under a wool coat. I wore it with a pair of fitted jeans and a black turtleneck and felt more elegant than I have in weeks. I like that it offers longer coverage to right below the knee — perfect for bum-conscious ladies. I ordered a small and it fit perfectly. I can easily see this flowy number with its handy pockets taking me all the way through spring. It also doesn't wrinkle easily. Unbeknownst to me, my four-year-old wadded it in a ball and used it as a pillow. All I had to do was hang it up and it was revived.

Room for improvement: If you are looking for a cozy cardigan — this isn't it. It's soft but the thin fabric makes it less cozy and more chic. Also, the makers say to hand-wash. Full disclosure, I threw it in the washer on delicate cycle and it was fine, but I let it air-dry. But, I don't think the thin fabric will be able to take too many machine washes before it breaks down. As a mom of two who never hand-washes anything, I'm willing to just take my chances and keep throwing it in the machine.

What other shoppers are saying: This Amazon's Choice item is a consistent no. 1 bestseller. Shoppers love how this "great sweater" is "lightweight" but "not too thin." Many were also impressed with the quality and softness of this "terrific long cardigan." One person did comment that while they loved the cardigan, the fabric was "thinner than they thought it would be," which I'd agree with.

This flowy cardigan is perfect for when you want a casual, comfortable style.

Pros
  • Soft fabric
  • Flowy style
  • Covers backside
Cons
  • Colour might not look the same in person as it does online
From $37 (originally $44) at Amazon

What I like about it: This is a great knit sweater for those times you want an oversized, casual look. The cable knit design is soft against your skin and the cozy cardigan is great for snuggling up at home. It also fits well over T-shirts and tanks, and the "batwing" style arms create a more trendy look. It falls a bit longer, covering the rear, which I appreciate when I'm heading out to run errands in my leggings.

Room for improvement: I ordered the cardigan in beige but the colour I received looked more like a light yellow — which isn't what I wanted. While I don't mind the hue, it does make me wonder if the other 16 colours it's offered in are also inconsistent with how they look online.

What other shoppers are saying: Overall, reviewers liked the drapey cardigan — calling it "stunning" and "so simple by perfect." That said, another shopper had the same colour issue I did — commenting that they too were expecting beige but instead got a "light lemon yellow."

Amazon

Available in 10 different colourways, this cozy cardigan is certain to become a winter wardrobe staple.

Pros
  • Comfortable and cozy
  • Perfect for cold winter days
  • Chunky, oversized style
Cons
  • May run small
$21 (originally $26) at Amazon

What I like about it: This soft and comfortable sweater is hands down my favourite of the bunch. I wore it all weekend at Blue Mountain with my kids, with the temperatures well below freezing, and was as cozy as could be. The round neck of this chunky button down cardigan creates a super cozy fit and the knitted fabric is ideal for brutal winter weather. It comes in 10 different colours and I will absolutely be ordering a couple more. I love the navy colour of the one I got but am also tempted to try out the lighter pink shade. This sweater was the least expensive of the group and yet it exceeded my expectations the most.

Room for improvement: Listen, this sweater is all that and a bag of chips but I may need to invest in one of those fabric shavers as I already can see a bit of pilling starting on the sleeves. Also, it stretches — but you can machine wash it to help restore some of its shape.

What other shoppers are saying: People are "in love" with this cardigan, raving about how "thick and cozy" it is. The "must-have" sweater is "incredible for the price." A few shoppers did mention that the cardigan ran small, and would recommend sizing up, especially if you want it to be ultra-cozy.

This long, hooded cardigan is available in six different colourways.

Pros
  • Warm
  • Convenient hood and pockets
  • True to size
Cons
  • Doesn't look like it does in pictures
$35 (originally $40) at Amazon

What I like about it: The vertical block lines of the long hooded cardigan immediately drew me in. The tan, black and white edging complement the black body of the sweater so well. The cardigan has a surprisingly snuggly fit, so even if I have a thin henley on underneath I'm warm. The hood was a huge bonus as it's so rare to find a cute, stylish sweater that has one. I also love how it falls right below the knee, so I can look cute, yet fully covered. Plus, it has pockets.

Room for improvement: All that aside, I'm going to be brutally honest. This sweater was the biggest disappointment of the bunch. I wanted it to look as thick and structured as it did in the Amazon photos but it didn't live up to my expectations. My main issue is that the fabric is just so much thinner and less impressive than the stock photos. When I opened the package, the edges of the sweater seemed to roll up, as did the pockets. I've worn the sweater and it's super cozy and comfortable, but I don't wear it out of the house — it just looks too sloppy on. It was also the most expensive of the five — and while it comes in five other stylish colourways, I would never buy it again.

What other shoppers are saying: One shopper called the cardigan a "nice everyday sweater" while others praised the "soft and cozy" design of the "fashionable" coverall. Yet some people were disappointed in the quality of the fabric and how it "curls up" at the edges.

This 100% cotton sweater, available in 8 different colourways, is perfect for all seasons.

Pros
  • 100% cotton
  • Ribbed knit design
  • Stylish button and crewneck collor
Cons
  • Runs big but might shrink after washing/drying
$50 (originally $57) at Amazon

What I like about it: The 100 per cent cotton ribbed cardigan will take me through all the seasons. It's a nice layer during the winter months, but I can also picture myself reaching for it on cool summer nights. It's lightweight and versatile, and the crew neck collar and light buttons are also a nice touch. It was the priciest of the five, but it's well made and I think will hold up. I love the green colour.

Room for improvement: I wish it came in an extra small, as the small is a bit baggier than I'd like. However, as it's cotton, I'm certain it will shrink after a few washes. That's something to keep in mind to make sure you get your desired fit.

What other shoppers are saying: Customers "love this sweater," which they say is the "perfect weight." The "cute" and "well-made" sweater offers a "very nice classic look." Some said that the sweater runs big and one person warned that the "beautiful" sweater shrinks down almost one full size after washing and drying.

When it comes to winter style, cozy and comfortable is clutch. If I had to choose one sweater to throw in my carry-on for a weekend winter getaway, there is no doubt it would be the versatile Wyeysyt Chunky Cardigan from Amazon. It looks exactly like it did online, comes in a ton of colours, and is super affordable. (FYI, the exact one I got is currently on sale for $22!) That said, some shoppers did say the cardigan runs small, so keep that in mind when purchasing.
