Although household chores may not be at the top of everyone’s list of fun activities, there’s no denying the feeling of a freshly cleaned home. I’ve never been one to stick to a strict cleaning schedule, but one must-have home device is changing all that for good : the iRobot Roomba i3+ vacuum.

I was recently sent over one of the brand’s newest cleaning devices, and despite some initial skepticism, I’ve been fully converted to the robotic vacuum cleaner life.

Check out my honest review below.

How does it work?

Consider the iRobot Roomba i3+ vacuum your own personal cleaning assistant, since it easily navigates around your home to tidy up your floors and carpets. This model not only vacuums up dirt, dust, pet hair, and crumbs, but it also returns itself to the included Clean Base when it’s done, where debris gets automatically sucked into an AllergenLock storage bag.

A premium three-stage cleaning system uses dual multi surface brushes and powerful lifting suction to sweep away messes. It even manages to tidy into corners, with an exterior edge-sweeping brush that tackles tough to reach areas with ease.

If allergies are an issue, you’ll definitely appreciate the high efficiency filter that captures 99 per cent of household pollen, mold, dust mites and pet dander as it cleans.

First impressions

While the iRobot Roomba i3+ is fully functional straight out of the box (I plugged it in and let it run immediately), it actually works best when connected with your home’s wifi network. It took me some time to get it to connect, but after the initial troubleshooting, my Roomba was off and running.

One of the best things about owning a robotic vacuum is that it literally takes the work out of tidying up. You can schedule it to run at any time throughout the day, and the iRobot App can be used to personalize your schedule depending on the time of year, for example increased cleaning during allergy season.

Depending on the size of your home and how frequently you’re running the iRobot Roomba i3+, the machine also holds up to 60 days’ worth of dirt and dust so that you can truly set it and forget it.

The verdict

Now that my partner and I are at home more than ever before, it’s especially noticeable how quickly dirt, dust and crumbs accumulate. I’d find myself running my stick vacuum multiple times throughout the week, only to find new crumbs seemingly appear out of nowhere. The iRobot i3+ has been a lifesaver at taking one chore off of our to-do lists, and freeing up more time for things that we actually enjoy doing.

There are a few drawbacks to the iRobot i3+, like how the vacuum does have a bit of trouble navigating around the fringed and textured area rug in my kitchen, and that it’s a little loud while it’s running (definitely wait until those video calls are over to schedule a cleaning), but overall it does a really thorough job of cleaning up dust and larger messes alike.

At $750, the iRobot Roomba i3+ and Clean Base combo is certainly a splurge for many people, but the ease of having it take some of the stress out of cleaning is more than worth its cost. With the latest Black Friday deals from iRobot bringing the total down to $550, it certainly helps cushion the blow. This is definitely one device that’s a great treat this holiday season, whether it’s for yourself or a loved one.

If you’d rather opt for the vacuum on its own to keep costs down, you can also shop the iRobot Roomba i3 on sale for $400, or the iRobot Roomba 675 for just $280.
