IKEA’s latest vintage drop is selling out quickly Ikea

Add a jolt of maximalist flair and vintage charm to your space with Ikea's latest drop – the sixth and final edition of the Nytillverkad collection. The Swedish furniture retailer has dived into its archive one last time as part of its 80th anniversary celebration with a capsule collection of classic hero pieces, all with a contemporary twist. New highlights for February include a reimagining of the colourful Guide shelving unit that first launched in 1985, a fancy new denim design of the Tajt chair from 1973, and vibrant sculptural bubble vases from 1995.

'Simply adding one piece from this collection will make a statement, with items that can also change form and colour to fit each individual home,' says Karin Gustavsson, creative leader of the Nytillverkad collection. 'We have pulled inspiration from four decades, reimagining the pieces to feel fresh and new. You will find a palette of bold colours, as well as softer, curvier accent pieces and playful prints to make every day that little bit more joyful.'

As expected, these limited edition pieces have gone down a storm, and some have already sold out. Here's a roundup of our favourites...

Ikea's iconic 'anti-stress' Dyvlinge swivel armchair is back, this time in a bright orange colourway. The slightly reclined seat, formerly known as Mila, was one of Ikea's biggest success stories. You can still buy it in green and black too.

Small-space dwellers will love the Mofalla chair, first released in 1978. The foldable chair features stylish chrome-plated legs and a thick canvas fabric. Use it in your living room and as an 'emergency chair' for unexpected guests.

Byakorre shelving unit

Originally introduced as Guide

Ikea

Byakorre, formerly known as the Guide shelving unit and later renamed Enetri, first launched in 1985 and features steel wire sides and colourful shelf edges. Designer Niels Gammelgaard discovered he could get the shelves in different colourways without any extra costs, resulting in a characteristic shelving display in six colours – great for personalisation. The unit has already sold out online (but don't worry, we found a similar alternative below).

The Guttane side (and coffee table)

Occasionally, you find a stylish and affordable piece that becomes a timeless addition to the home – the Guttane side table and coffee table tick both those boxes. Originally released in 1963, these chic, mid-century tables are made using solid oak legs and oak veneer tops. But it's their pared-back and functional Scandi-inspired design – the little ledge prevents any items from tipping over – that makes them a classic.

Vårkumla chair bed

Originally introduced as the Tajt easy chair

Another sold-out design, Ikea transformed its 1973 Tajt easy chair into the modular Vårkumla chair bed, and it's in denim! This new iteration invites relaxed, flexible living. Dubbed ‘the ultimate transformer’, there are two flat cushions with leather buttons, leather straps, and a rolled cushion held in place with a chrome-plated tubular stand. Put the cushions on top of each other for a comfortable chair or position them side by side for a simple yet functional mattress.

'Denim was well-known in clothing, but no one had thought of using it for furniture. That fresh thinking and thinking differently was very typical of Ingvar and Ikea,' says Lars Göran Peterson, a former textile purchaser at Ikea.
