Being a former sweater designer, I’ve seen hundreds of yarn, patterns, and silhouette combinations—and yes, I do have a favorite. When I’m shopping for myself, I reach for turtleneck styles with more relaxed shapes and a non-constricting neckline the most. They pair effortlessly with jeans and boots, and they double as a scarf under coats because your neck is covered. With that said, if you’ve been on the lookout for the perfect turtleneck sweater, I’ve found eight styles I give my designer stamp of approval from Nordstrom and Amazon. The best part? My former sweater designer spirit lit up when I saw the delicate pointelle design on this Dorica Turtleneck Sweater from Mango. It features a relaxed cropped fit with an exaggerated foldover turtleneck, flared sleeves, and thick ribbed finishings at the hem and cuffs.

Pettygarden Oversized Turtleneck Sweater

I’m obsessed with how this oversized sweater from Prettygarden is styled over a button-up shirt, so much so that I’ve added it to my cart (review on the way). It comes in 12 colors: white, green, black, blue, and pink, and it features a chunky foldover turtleneck with exposed seam dropped shoulders.

Amazon Essentials Lightweight Turtleneck Sweater

As much as I love a chunky sweater, I understand the purpose of a classic style like this turtleneck from Amazon Essentials. Available in sizes XS to 6XL and 21 colors, the close-fitted sweater has lots of stretch, is made from a soft cotton blend, and has a classic fold-over turtleneck. Plus, it’s on sale for $19.
