I'm Trying to Figure Out What 'The Rehearsal' Season 2 Is Even About
In the first season of The Rehearsal, comedian Nathan Fielder bewildered audiences with a reality series about simulating tense moments in your life before they happen. As HBO attempts to explain in its official logline for season 2, the TV series, “helps ordinary people prepare for life’s biggest moments by ‘rehearsing’ them in carefully crafted simulations.” Whether it’s a job interview or a stressful conversation with a family member, Nathan is here to help.
For anyone who watched The Rehearsal season 1, the second half of the season devolved into a massive meta-commentary on Fielder’s own life, his crazy social experiment, and the comedian’s desire to fix his past mistakes.
In season 2, Fielder will very likely dive even deeper into the show’s bizarre premise. “The urgency of Fielder’s project grows as he decides to put his resources toward an issue that affects us all,” HBO’s logline teases. In new footage from season 2, Fielder enters The Rehearsal's multiverse. The comedian oversees several rooms in which he is helping his guests rehearse something—we don't know what it is—while other actors play himself. Watch the teaser below.
When Does The Rehearsal Season 2 Premiere?
In the US, The Rehearsal returns to HBO on Sunday, April 20, at 10:30 PM. ET. The six-episode season will release weekly and stream simultaneously on Max. In the UK, it should pop up on Apple TV and Amazon Prime on the Monday.
When we asked a licensed psychologist about The Rehearsal in 2022, Dr. Jasmine Dayan of Madison Park Psychological Services told us, “There will always be that element of uncertainty” about role-playing scenarios. “You can prepare, plan, and predict as much as possible. That’s what Fielder tries to do,” she continued. “Ultimately there is always uncertainty.”
If season 2’s teaser is teasing anything, it's that Fielder has yet to fully learn this lesson.
