SQUARE FEET: 1200

Twenty-four years ago, Natasha Landers was looking for a potential forever home for herself and her then-1.5-year-old daughter. This 1,200-square-foot, three-bedroom house in East London’s Walthamstow area caught her eye due to its grand size.

“This was my second house, and I wanted a Victorian house with the ability to put my own stamp on it, ” writes Natasha, who is an an interior designer with a “love of bold color and mid-century furniture.”

There would need to be a lot of character added back into the home, which Natasha describes as “dated” and with a lot of the “original features stripped out.” She reports that it needed electrical rewiring and central heating installed. “A doer-upper,” she calls it.

“I started with essentials, rewiring, adding central heating and a new roof,” Natasha describes. “Then adding character with new sash windows, reinstating coving and spindles in the stairs to add back character, and uncovering fireplaces. Next, I extended the bathroom as it was tiny and I was able to add a stand-alone shower.”

The kitchen was also extended and completely renovated eight years ago. “I wanted to add light and warmth to the space,” she writes. Natasha says she also loves to use materials to create unique interiors, an example of which can be found in the kitchen. “In my home, I have a light installation in the kitchen made of copper pipes loosely inspired by the London tube map,” she describes of just one of the distinctive features in her home.
