Island hop around Scotland's Hebrides with TV's Monty Halls
When it comes to wild beauty, dramatic scenery and diverse wildlife, Scotland's Hebrides are practically unparalleled in their appeal. The Hebridean islands are full of rugged mountains, romantic lochs and practically deserted beaches lapped by Atlantic waves – but how best to see all these natural wonders, while also soaking up the vibrant Gaelic culture?
The answer is Country Living's five-day Hebrides tour, during which you'll visit no fewer than 10 magnificent islands. You'll cruise along on ferry trips, visit undiscovered beaches and bays and take in the key spots on sightseeing tours. From the Callanish Standing Stones to the famous black houses of Gearrannan, via the isles of Harris, Lewis and many more, you'll be able to fully appreciate the beauty and diversity of these unique isles on this unforgettable trip.
Adding to the wonderful adventure, you'll be treated to exclusive events with travel journalist and broadcaster, Monty Halls. The former Royal Marines Officer (who left the forces to pursue a career in expeditions, travel writing and marine biology) has presented award-winning documentaries and will join you for a day of the tour, as you explore the islands of Eriskay and Barra. He'll share his unique insights and ensure you don't miss anything in these scenic spots.
The memorable tour includes four nights' accommodation with dinner, bed and breakfast – so you won't need to worry about a thing. You'll spend two nights the Dark Island Hotel and two nights at the Caberfeidh Hotel in Stornoway, the largest town in the Outer Hebrides.
Days will begin with a hearty full Scottish breakfast, and the second day of the tour will see you visit Barra and Eriskay (which is just three miles long) with Monty. You'll explore Prince Charlie's Bay, keep an eye out for the home of Sir Compton Mackenzie (author of Whisky Galore) and take in the wildflowers before Monty gives a talk and Q&A session.
Over the next couple of days, you'll explore Harris and Lewis, seeing the beautiful beaches at Scarista, Horgabost and Luskentyre, as well as the island of Taransay, which is famous from the programme Castaway 2000.
On the west coast of Lewis, you'll see the Standing Stones of Callanish, a 5,000-year-old structure and a marvellous sight to behold. Then it will be time to see the black houses at Gearrannan, another of the most famous sights in the area.
