Jacquemus Is Launching A Beauty Line Matteo Valle

From the iconic Bisou Pearle handbag to 'Le Chiquito', and not forgetting the highly Instagrammable runway shows over the years, Jacquemus has imprinted an indelible mark on the world of fashion. Now, the Parisian-based designer, Simon Porte Jacquemus, is setting his sights on beauty, making a splash into an all new category with what we hope to be an ebullient make-up collection.

In a new statement, it's been confirmed that Jacquemus has partnered with the beauty conglomerate, L'Oréal. 'We are thrilled to welcome JACQUEMUS and unleash together its outstanding luxury beauty potential. With its singular brand positioning, fuelled by sensational creativity and social first playfulness, JACQUEMUS will perfectly complement L’Oréal Luxe’s portfolio of iconic brands and reinforce our worldwide leadership,' Cyril Chapuy, President of L'Oréal Luxe, shared in the statement.

This is in fact a long time coming for the French fashion designer who set his sights on the beauty industry even prior to the inception of his now cult fashion brand. 'Fifteen years ago, I began dreaming of and creating Jacquemus, with perfume and beauty always part of my vision for the brand. Today, I am proud to continue shaping this dream with the leading beauty group, L’Oréal. I’m excited to see what the future holds for us,' Simon Porte Jacquemus, President, Founder and Creative Director of JACQUEMUS, revealed.

Of course, Jacquemus knows how to create hype – and a lot of it. The designer has transformed lavender fields into hot-pink runways, jetsetted to the shores of Hawaii to showcase his latest collections and taken over the Palace of Versailles. But virality doesn't a beauty brand make. Countless fashion brands who have made their foray into the beauty world have realised they need to draw on their existing archives and channel their own distinctive vision to build a successful beauty formula. For Jacquemus, we hope that translates into combining his heritage, the landscape of the French countryside and imbuing a sense of playfulness with haute couture into a new beauty collection.

Needless to say, we on the ELLE UK team, are excited about this new collaboration. 'Simon Porte Jacqueumus had made a quick impact on the fashion industry and the beauty line is sure to do the same. His designs have become it-items, and fast, but another factor that will surely impact the beauty line is his understanding of brand marketing,' shares ELLE's commissioning editor, Naomi Pike. 'There's nobody who does it like him and the investment from L'Oreal could only serve to set these ideas up bigger and better.'

Predictions for what this beauty collection might look like are starting to take hold too. Will we be treated to fresh, colourful make-up a la SS19? Or perhaps a play on the designer's 'glass skin' during the most recent SS25 shows? 'On the more product-specific side of things, I think we're going to see sculptural objet d'art-like packaging in strong shades that reference his understanding of shape and colour often seen in the clothing, come through strong in the beauty line. Biggest of all, however, will no doubt be the designer's south of France upbringing serving as an influence, such as a Cote d'Azur bronzer and a Provence-inspired lavender fragrance,' Pike continues.
