Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Stewart Were Twinning on the Red Carpet

You people work on commission, right? Yeah. Big mistake, big, huge. I have to go shopping now. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [LAUGH] No, ma, stop it mama. Shelby drink the juice. [LAUGH] [MUSIC] I've either been with a guy or breaking up with a guy. I mean, I have not even had two weeks of a breather just to deal with [LAUGHS] [MUSIC] I say a little prayer for you. I'm combing my hair now. Wondering what dress to wear now. I say a little prayer for you. [MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO]

It was a case of double vision. Style Icon Julia Roberts and Stylist of the Year Elizabeth Stewart arrived at the 2018 InStyle Awards wearing the exact same outfit, right down to the shoes. The A-list actor and stylist to the stars trotted out matching lilac Givenchy suits — creative director Clare Waight Keller also happened to be an honoree — and completed their complementary ensembles with pink shirts and white flatform oxfords to really pay homage to the tailored menswear influence of the suits. And while their bags weren't an exact match, they were the same chain-handle style in different colors.

"We were just talking about what we were going to wear. It's not often we get to go to something together," Roberts explained. "And I said, you know, because we do look alike, I said, 'What if we wore, like, a similar outfit? Let's wear the same thing.'"

"That could be fun," she continued. "We're kind of the same person."

The outfit wasn't all that gave everyone a double take. The actor explained that she and Stewart coordinated their hair and makeup, too. "We were going for it," Roberts said.

Stewart added, "We went for it." The relaxed waves and minimal makeup didn't detract from the statement-making suit and neither did the fact that they showed up hand-in-hand brandishing mega-watt smiles (a Roberts signature). It was a cheeky way to play the fashion press, who always ask their readers who wore it better — only this time around, there's no winner. Tonight, both are picking up awards and being that they're both in on the twinning, they know that the tongue-in-cheek style move is going to snag the attention of just about everyone.

"It's the suit of the season," Stewart said of the unconventional choice, which walked the runway in Givenchy's most recent fashion show. Waight Keller blurred the gender lines, however, showing the dusty purple suit on male model Jonas Gloer.

With so many red carpets under Stewart's belt, there's no better expert on the matter on what makes a standout red carpet look. Prepare to see the boxy, slouchy silhouette all over — though maybe not necessarily in pairs. It's already proved to be a hot trend tonight: Olivia Culpo and Lizzy Caplan both wore (non-matching) suits, too.
