Kaia Gerber's 18th Birthday Party Outfit Was a Nod to Her Mom Cindy Crawford
When you're an internationally sought-after model from a runway dynasty, you don't celebrate legal adulthood with a small get-together. At least, that was the case forKaia Gerber, who rang in her 18th birthday and the start of New York Fashion Week with a burlesque-themed party at the Paradise Club in Times Square last night.
Kaia Gerber turned 18 on September 3 but saved her birthday blowout for Friday, September 6—right in time for New York Fashion Week's kickoff. She took the stylish occasion to heart by showing up to her burlesque birthday in a leather corset dress by Versace.
Her outfit wasn't just a wink at her history on the Versace runway though. Gerber's dress riffed on a look her mom, Cindy Crawford, wore to the 1992 VMAs. Instead of a leather skirt, however, Crawford's outfit included black pants. See them both, below:
While Gerber nodded to her mother's epic fashion legacy, Cindy Crawford looked to another fashion icon for her party look: She wore a Cher-esque metallic gold wig and pantsuit. Rande Gerber, Kaia's father, apparently opted out of the dress-up portion of the party.
Kaia Gerber's 18th birthday party wasn't a small family affair. In the tradition of OTT birthdays hosted by the Kardashian-Jenners and the Hiltons, Gerber's guest list could have doubled as a red carpet call sheet. Fellow NYFW regulars Kendall Jenner and Winnie Harlow stopped by, as well as Leonardo DiCaprio, Camila Morrone, Alexander Wang, Lourdes Leon, and Brooklyn Beckham.
Anyone who scored an exclusive invite got more than a slice of birthday cake. Gerber leaned into the burlesque theme with several drag performances and a happy birthday serenade from club diva Amanda Lepore.
Vogue shared a glimpse inside Kaia Gerber's birthday party, but there'll be plenty more Gerber sightings in the days ahead. She's one of the fashion world's most in-demand models, so she'll likely make a few birthday struts down the runway over the course of New York Fashion Week.
