Kate Middleton and Prince William Were Reportedly Seen on Vacation on the Isles of Scilly
William once vacationed on the Isles as a boy with Princess Diana.
As social distancing measures begin to ease in the U.K., Kate Middleton and Prince William have reportedly been spotted on vacation in the Isles of Scilly, off the coast of southwest England.
According to The Mirror, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen cycling around the island of Tresco on Thursday.
“William and Kate were riding their bicycles, having a laugh. They looked so happy enjoying the weather," an onlooker told the outlet. "I did do a double take. They were really friendly and said hello."
A source also told The Mirror that they decided against traveling to Europe, since a potential need to quarantine upon their return would delay their return to work. The source said that they instead decided on a "quick getaway" with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis before the children return to school.
"They were keen to support our travel industry," the source said.
The Isles of Scilly were once a vacation destination for Prince William and Prince Harry when they were children, along with Princess Diana and Prince Charles. In 1989, William and Diana were photographed cycling on Tresco together.
The Mirror reports the family will return to Norfolk on Friday, where they have been quarantining at their Anmer Hall home amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Though lockdown restrictions have somewhat eased in the U.K., allowing some of the British royals to return to in-person engagements, Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday delayed additional relaxation of restrictions, citing "the prevalence of the virus in the community."

In recent months, William and Kate have been able to ditch Zoom meetings in favor of public events, with social distancing measures instated. Last week, they had a meeting at Queen Elizabeth's Sandringham Estate to announce their Royal Foundation's $2 million donation in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
