Katie Holmes Has the Perfect Baggy-Jeans Alternative: Wide-Leg Linen Pants

Look, we know there’s nothing that can really replace your favorite baggy jeans, but Katie Holmes is proving that, if you want to switch it up without sacrificing the wide-leg silhouette, there are casual alternatives. It turns out there is a middle ground between wide-leg dress pants and oversized joggers that isn’t denim, and who better to demonstrate than fashion’s favorite wild card, Katie Holmes.

On March 10, Holmes attended the Zimmermann show during Paris Fashion Week in a relaxed, cream-colored linen set that included an elegant take on classic cargo pants. Holmes’s voluminous trousers, with the requisite oversized extra pockets, elevated the style thanks to the linen fabric as well as the tortoiseshell D-ring belt.

She paired the trousers with a simple black tee and a matching linen trench with a complementary D-ring buckle on the jacket’s belt. The actor kept the look low-key with minimal jewelry, and an artfully messy bedhead hairstyle.

Baggy jeans are still enjoying a very well-deserved moment, with classic, high-waisted styles and the bolder barrel option dominating the trend charts. Jennifers Lopez and Lawrence have both been spotted in oversized denim recently, while Holmes herself has proven she favors the most controversial takes on barrel jeans, tending to pair them with surprising footwear or equally baggy jackets and coats.

Katie Holmes has always been a maverick when it comes to high-low styling, and she’s also been on the vanguard of the 2000s-trend revival of recent years. Some of our favorite of Holmes’s looks see her pairing delicate ballet flats with bulky barrel jeans or wearing socks in a surprising, contrasting color. She’s also flipped the script by adding belts over winter coats and taking a bold stance in favor of wearing leggings as pants by dressing them up with a stiletto and a structured blouse.
