Keira Knightley unveils her new "elevated grunge" bob hairstyle
It's impossible to ignore just how popular bob hairstyles are in 2024. Whether its Jennifer Aniston's sleek '90s chop, Michelle Yeoh's blonde transformation or Kendall Jenner's blunt brunette haircut, the shorter style is proving to have serious longevity this year.
The most recent convert to the bob is Keira Knightley. The actress was seen with her signature longer lengths this summer at Wimbledon, and has since traded her brunette waves for a bob that floats above the shoulders as she kicked off her press appearances for Black Doves, the Netflix thriller dropping tomorrow.
At last night's red-carpet premiere in London, Knightley opted for an unexpected beachy take on the style, created by the A-list hairstylist Luke Hersheson of London's Hershesons salons.
A go-to stylist for fashion-forward British stars such as Dua Lipa, Victoria Beckham and Sienna Miller, Hersheson has perfected the art of undone glamour. The textured, tousled style has become synonymous with the stylist, and he's been working with Knightley for years, having previously given her a short crop cut back in 2021.
For Knightley's latest look, Hersheson styled her blunt bob with lived-in waves and plenty of beachy, undone texture that felt fresh and decidedly modern against her all-black, high-shine Chanel outfit.
"It was a '90s, elevated grunge idea," Hersheson tells Bazaar. While it's easy to gravitate towards a more classic, old Hollywood finish for the red carpet, this rock 'n roll approach stays true to Knightley's personal style which has always been a little more offbeat and cool.
"I used my new multi-tasker mermaid waver attachment which has large barrels – it gives a really subtle flat wave," shares Hersheson. To finish, he "used some Air Dry Spray to give it separation and hold".
Paired with gentle rosy cheeks, soft lips and elegant smokey eyes – courtesy of the make-up artist Lisa Eldridge (who used the Sculpt and Shade Lip Pencil in 0N, 1N and Rouge Experience Refillable Lipstick in Simone) – Knightley brings a grown-up, sophisticated feel to the otherwise grungy style.
