Kelly Clarkson Reveals She Once Signed an Autograph as Carrie Underwood

Kelly Clarkson’s Upcoming Album Might Address Her Divorce From Brandon Blackstock

The American Idol alum dropped a major hint.

While there are plenty of celebrity doppelgängers out there (Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard, anyone?), Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are not typically a pair we have trouble telling apart. However, despite the lack of resemblance, Clarkson admits that she's still commonly mistaken for the country star.

On Friday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly recalled the uncomfortable moment of when she forged Carrie's signature after a fan asked for an autograph, thinking she was the "Before He Cheats" singer. "This girl came up to me and was like, 'Oh my god, your song 'So Small' is one of my favorites,'" Clarkson told guests Michelle Buteau and Cheryl Hines about the case of mistaken identity.

"And I kept thinking, 'I don't have a song 'So Small.' And then she said another song and I was like, 'Oh, you think I'm Carrie Underwood.'"

Clarkson went on to say she looks "nothing like Carrie Underwood," but felt so embarrassed for the fan that she pretended to be her. "She was like, 'Can you sign this?' And I totally signed 'Carrie Underwood.' I think that might be illegal!" she joked.

Back in 2016, Kelly opened up about being confused for Carrie while making an appearance on Z100's The Morning Show. "This is my favorite thing. People come up to me all the time," the mom of two previously told host Elvis Duran. "OK, we look nothing alike, we sound nothing alike, there's nothing about us that's similar, really, except we were both on Idol. People are always like, 'I love your song, 'So Small,' and I'm like, 'Thank you. Thank you, I think you're thinking I'm Carrie Underwood.'" Looks like some things never change.
