Kensington Palace has released an adorable official photo to mark Princess Charlotte's first day of school at Thomas' Battersea.

The four-year-old smiled sweetly at the camera in the family snap, taken at Kensington Palace shortly before she left home for her first day of reception.

Charlotte looked predictably cute in her new navy and red school uniform, as she held hands with her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. A smiling Prince George was also wearing his uniform, as he prepared to enter Year Two at Thomas'.

Beaming with pride, the Duchess of Cambridge chose a Michael Kors outfit for the occasion. Kate was no doubt thrilled to be there for her daughter's big day after having missed George's first day of school while suffering from a hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness), during her third pregnancy with Prince Louis.

Little Louis was the only member of the Cambridge family not to attend his sister's big day, but we can expect to see the youngest royal follow in his siblings' footsteps in the next couple of years.

Thomas' Battersea is an independent preparatory school for children aged four to 13, with fees ranging from £19,287 to £21,786 per year, according to The Good School Guide.

Princess Charlotte is set to enjoy a varied curriculum at Thomas', covering everything from Computing to Drama.

She previously attended Willocks Nursery School, closer to her home in Kensington Palace.
