Kids in B.C. are getting ripped off by the tooth fairy

Kids in British Columbia: it might be time to revolt against the creepy woman who steals your teeth.

According to a new survey released by Visa Canada, parents the tooth fairy is likely to pay an average of $2.46 for a lost tooth in B.C.– almost a dollar less than the national average of $3.44.

Kids in Atlantic Canada aren’t faring much better, with an average of $2.79 per tooth. In Ontario, a pearly white fetches an average of $2.95, while children in the Prairie provinces get $3.59.

In Quebec, the average going rate for a tooth under the pillow is a whopping $4.08 – $0.64 above the national average. That’s a huge leap – last year, kids in Quebec got $2.06.

According to the poll, 12 per cent of kids will receive a loonie, 30 per cent can expect a toonie and 15 per cent will find a $5 bill under their pillow. A lucky 5 per cent receive the holy grail: a $20 bill.

Overall, the tooth fairy is feeling more generous than last year, when the average payout was $2.80 across Canada.

Stateside, the tooth fairy’s average payout dropped for the second year in a row, down to $3.19. Still, given the current exchange rate, that’s about $4.15 CDN. What gives, tooth fairy? Adjust for the economy!
