Lady Gaga's Engagement Ring is the Pink Version of Kate Middleton's
Lady Gaga confirmed her engagement to Christian Carino during her moving acceptance speech at Elle's 25th annual Women in Hollywood event. The singer and A Star is Born star referred to Carino as "my fiancé" for the first time in her motivational, encouraging, and empowering speech.
The couple began dating in 2017, and first appeared publicly in preparation for Gaga's superbowl performance. Gaga has been seen wearing a ring from Carino for some time now, but had yet to publicly confirm its significance, or the couple's engagement. She was seen wearing the gown at the premieres of A Star is Born, with her Givenchy Couture and archive Alexander McQueen looks most recently.
Per E! News, who spoke to Andrew Brown, the President of WP Diamonds, the ring is a pink sapphire or diamond, surrounded by smaller stones. Sound familiar? Think of this as the pink version of Kate Middleton's sapphire with a diamond halo, that once belonged to Princess Diana.
Although Gaga is royalty to us, Kate's nears 12-carats, while Gaga's is reportedly around 6-7, and is likely a pink sapphire surrounded by a 3-4 carat diamond halo, reports E!. Brown also noted that "It looks like it may be a Padparadscha sapphire, in which case this ring would easily retail between $300,000 and $400,000."
Gaga's engagement announcement, stunning ring, (and what will likely be the most epic wedding dress we've seen in a while), was tempered by her sobering speech at the awards, which hinted at her overall mood regarding getting dressed up in a climate where women need to be taken more seriously and recognized for their voices, thoughts, and ideas.
"I tried on dress after dress today getting ready for this event, one tight corset after another, one heel after another, a diamond, a feather, thousands of beaded fabrics and the most beautiful silks in the world. To be honest, I felt sick to my stomach. And I asked myself: What does it really mean to be a woman in Hollywood? We are not just objects to entertain the world. We are not simply images to bring smiles or grimaces to people’s faces. We are not members of a giant beauty pageant meant to be pit against one another for the pleasure of the public. We women in Hollywood, we are voices. We have deep thoughts and ideas and beliefs and values about the world and we have the power to speak and be heard and fight back when we are silenced."
While Gaga is known for fashion risks and iconic red carpet appearances, it appears that for now, the most glamorous thing she plans on sporting is her pink sapphire from Carino–until her next premiere.
