Liam Neeson's Son Found the Sweetest Way to Honor His Late Mother's Memory

In news that will surely lift your spirits, Liam Neeson’s son Micheál has made quite possibly the sweetest gesture to honor his late mother, actress Natasha Richardson.

According to People, the 23-year-old has changed his last name from Neeson to Richardson. His younger brother Daniel, 22, is expected to continue using the Neeson name.

Micheál was just 13 and his brother Daniel, 12, when the 45-year-old Parent Trap actress died during a skiing accident at Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Now almost 10 years later, it seems he’s found the perfect way to keep his mother’s memory close to heart.

Micheál’s maternal grandmother, Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave, spoke to The Daily Mail about the official name change.

“That wasn’t because he wanted to avoid his father’s fame, which is enormous,” Redgrave, 81, told the outlet. “He wanted to hold his mother close to him — because she was a remarkable actress. Absolutely remarkable.”

Micheál previously revealed that he struggled in the years following his mother death, opening up to The Sunday Times in 2015 about his drug and alcohol abuse.

“Things just started going downhill,” he shared. “The people I was with, were partying a lot. It was dark. I hit rock bottom.’”

With everything that Micheál has gone through with his mother’s death, we are happy to see that he now doing well and even following in his parents’ footsteps with a budding acting career of his own.

We’re sure his mother would be so proud.
