Mariah Carey’s Sugar Cookies Are All We Really Want for Christmas
One ingredient makes them extra-special.
Nothing says Christmas quite like holiday cookies. Well, that and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on repeat.
But making Mariah Carey's personal holiday cookie recipe? Now we're talking. Unsurprisingly, this queen of Christmas has a sugar cookie she is known for this time of year, and if you’re anything like us, you’ll want to try them out for yourself.
Mariah Carey's Famous Christmas Sugar Cookies
A recent YouTube video showed us how Mariah Carey whips up her beloved Christmas sugar cookies to get into the holiday spirit. Here’s everything you need to know about recreating the singer’s recipe in your own kitchen this season.
Mariah’s recipe calls for all the essential items you typically need for a sugar cookie as well as her special ingredient: lemon zest.
The video's host says that once you've gathered the ingredients, you’ll add the butter and sugar to a bowl and beat the mixture with a hand mixer until it’s light and fluffy. Then, add the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and lemon zest, and blend “until it’s nice and smooth.” Finally, add the flour, baking soda, and salt in increments until the dough just comes together.
Cover the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
After chilling the dough, flour a work surface and rolling pin. Roll out the dough to roughly 1/8-inch thickness. Since we're talking about Mariah, it's only appropriate this recipe calls for holiday cookie cutters, such as Christmas tree shapes seen in the video, but any will do.
Place cookies on a lined baking sheet, spaced about two inches apart, and bake until golden brown. Wait for them to cool before decorating "to your heart's desire" with icing and sugar or sprinkles.
If these cookies are even half as good as Mariah Carey's range, we know we have some pretty spectacular holiday cookies to look forward to this season!
