Canadian television personality Marilyn Denis is engaged — and the story is sweeter than the hot cross buns she recently taught us how to make on her show.

On Monday night, the 59-year-old took to Twitter to announce she was engaged to her high school sweetheart, sharing an adorable side-by-side photo of the couple at their high school prom and a photo from 40 years later.

“In 1975, Jim, who lived down the street, asked me to prom. We had a blast and he moved away,” she wrote. “Forty years later, we reconnected, fell in love, and last night he proposed!”

To say fans were excited for Denis is an understatement.

When it comes to journalism, Denis has always been ahead of the curve. She kicked off her career as the first female DJ at KRPL in Moscow, Idaho, she spent some time working in radio before moving into television journalism in Calgary. Working as a programmer, music director and traffic reporter, Denis really hit her stride when she auditioned to co-host a CHUM FM program in 1986. Since then she has continued her career in radio and television, winning various awards for her spanning broadcast career.
