Mary-Jane flats are everywhere – here are our favourites to buy now
The original Mary-Jane (which dates back to 1904 and was named after a cartoon character) has never truly gone out of style, remaining a classic design that almost every single fashion house has a version of. But, the past few seasons has seen the rise and rise of the Mary-Jane flat, a sort of elevated take on the ballerina, with a Mary-Jane inspired strap.
Of course, no one has done it better than Alaïa whose strappy ballet flat comes in various iterations, including bedazzled and mesh, all of which have been snapped up by fashion editors, influencers and celebrities. Meanwhile, Le Monde Beryl's offering is a super comfortable style which rose in popularity last summer when the likes of Alexa Chung and Dakota Johnson stepped out in a pair. There are also pearl-embellished Jimmy Choo versions, patent styles from Aeyde and chunky take from Loewe in our edit.
Below, we round up the best Mary-Jane flats to add to your wardrobe this season, and wear all year long.

Hugely responsible for the ballet flat's revival in all forms, Alaïa's offering comes in a number of different styles, from sheer to this diamanté-studded design.
