Meet Basic Projects: AD ’s New American Voices 2024

“We like to have our hands in everything,” says Kate Towill, who launched this multihyphenate firm with her husband, Ben, in 2015. Few people do it at their level. Working out of a 19th-century building on King Street, Basic Projects designs, builds, and operates its own hospitality venues, among them hit local restaurants. Creative director Kate also works her magic on private residences, including the couple’s own home, now in process. Along the way, the Towills (pictured at the Post House inn) have learned the ins and outs of historic preservation, deftly bridging past and present. “We love to create worlds that you would want to live in,” says Kate. The goal, Ben jokes, is that you should “want to steal everything.” basicprojects.us
