On March 6, Meghan Markle made what is believed to be her final solo engagement as a senior royal by visiting the Robert Clack Upper School in Dagenham, East London. The Duchess was greeted enthusiastically by the school’s 700 students, who reportedly had been told they were receiving a “special guest.”

Markle met and spoke with Geraldine Dear, one of the 13 women who went on strike at the Dagenham Ford Motor Plant in 1984 to demand equal pay for women.

“Being in Dagenham is incredibly profound,” the Duchess told students. “As you can see with Geraldine, and the other women who had the strength to stand up for something that they knew needed to be done - is the best example of no matter how small you may feel, no matter how low you may feel on the ladder or the totem pole, no matter what colour you are, no matter what gender you are - you have a voice. And you certainly have the right to speak up for what is right.”

The Vancouver-based royal arrived sporting a $485 belted fringe bouclé jacket by Me+Em, a pair of two-tone leather pumps by Jennifer Chamandi ($1,000 CAD), a white camisole and a pair of black cropped trousers. Markle accessorized the look with a $536 Nane bag by Rejina Pyo and a $240 “Kismet” charm necklace by Edge of Ember.
