Meghan Markle ditches vegan leather for the real thing
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wowed crowds as they arrived for their first official visit to their namesake region on Wednesday. The couple greeted crowds and accepted gifts from well-wishes but all eyes were undoubtedly on Meghan Markle.
Markle arrived wearing looked chic in a monochrome green outfit and her trademark messy bun. Mixing luxury and affordable fashions, she chose a cream coat by Emporio Armani, a $595 USD Hugo Boss lambskin leather skirt and $99 US silk blouse by & Other Stories for the occasion. The look, although striking was a departure for the Duchess who has seemingly ditched her former vegan leather ways in favour of the real deal.

In 2016, Markle told Good Housekeeping of her choice to incorporate vegan leather into her “Suits” wardrobe saying, “My wardrobe for ‘Suits’ isn’t like ‘Working Girl’ — dressing for work doesn’t have to be so on-the-nose these days. The key is to have your own point of view attached to it. Personally, I love cropped pants in vegan leather, a great fitted blazer and a button-down.”
The Duchess’s preference for the faux leather look extended to her stylish collection with Canadian fashion retailer, Reitmans, which included a vegan leather pant and pencil skirt.

Although royals have worn leather accessories and footwear, this is seemingly the first time a member of the British royal family has sported leather for public duty.
The look seems a contrast to Markle’s former non-royal life.
In 2016, the former actress revealed she sticks to a vegan diet and even went so far as to call it “lifestyle eating.” While she admits that she has more flexibility in her off-season, does Markle’s new life as royal, who are notorious hunters and meat-eaters, mean that she’s left her vegan ways behind?
A fashion hit or unethical miss? You be the judge.
