I stopped wearing foundation because of this mattifying Milk primer — and it's on sale

The Milk Makeup Pore Eclipse Mattifying + Blurring Makeup Primer has completely eliminated my need to wear foundation

Like fashion trends and zodiac signs, makeup is seasonal. In my opinion, the colder months welcome softer, more sophisticated matte makeup. To achieve this look like a pro, makeup artists suggest giving your overall fall/winter beauty routine a few crucial upgrades to avoid looking super cakey.

I have naturally oily skin, so I cringe at the thought of the additional steps, times and costs(!) of faking a clean and clear matte complexion. The layering of hydrating serums, richer moisturizers, primers and heavier foundation and concealers on my skin is a feeling I'll never get used to. But luckily, through my trial-and-error ritual of rotating through the beauty samples that come across my desk every season, I've come across one product that has ultimately transformed the way I look at matte makeup — so much so that I don't feel the need to wear any foundation. Enter Milk Makeup's Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer. Even better? It's currently included in Sephora's Holiday Savings Event, which means you can shop it for up to 20% off depending on your access level.

From $38 $48 at Sephora

For years, I've relied on matte foundation formulas to do the work of providing full coverage to fake a velvety texture. But since using the Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer, I've learned that coverage isn't always needed to create that perfect blurring effect.

The Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer is best for oily and combination skin types and is made to lock in makeup and control shine. Also charged with skincare ingredients like niacinamide, bakuchiol and lentil extract, this primer's weightless water cream texture feels refreshing on the skin. Unlike other formulas I've used, it applies smoothly and instantly blurs the look pores for an IRL filter effect.

After applying my skincare, I like to work the primer all over my face and squeeze a few more extra dots to focus on my shiny T-zone area. After letting the primer set in a minute, I go in with a full-coverage concealer to spot-cover my dark spots and under eye area and then bake those spots with a translucent powder for the perfect matte base complexion. Without any foundation, my skin tone looks even and shine-free!

Not only does The Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer simplify my makeup routine, but it actually lives up to its promises of minimizing the appearance of pores over time. It has already earned 26,000 "loves" on Sephora's website, and 96 per cent of reviewers also recommend this primer.

"Yes, and yes, again! My oily girls with large pores, this one's for us! Definitely saw a difference in pore coverage, and it didn't sink into my pores throughout the day like most products," reads one five-star review.

“This is hands down the best primer I have ever used, works like a miracle for oily skin and sets my base so well," adds another reviewer. "It makes my skin look great and I also love wearing this on its own for the no-makeup days."

Normally retailing for $48, I would say Milk Makeup's Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer is totally worth the splurge — and especially now that it's on sale.

A little goes a long way, and if you don’t necessarily need to wear full-coverage of a foundation — you’ll be saving a lot more by making the switch to this primer.
